Funding & Grants

There are a wide variety of funding and grants available to Māori organisations including Marae digitisation, Iwi radio station upgrades, Māori Trusts websites. We've compiled a list of grants you may be eligible for.

Oranga Marae supports the physical and cultural revitalisation of marae, as centres of Māori identity and mātauranga.

This fund aims to support marae communities to retain, protect, or transmit their mātauranga and care for their taonga.

Department for Heritage & Culture

Oral History Grants

Ngā Kōrero Tuku Iho New Zealand Oral History Grants are available for community-led projects reflecting diverse identities and perspectives.

Creative NZ

Toi Ake Grant

This fund aims to support marae communities to retain, protect, or transmit their mātauranga and care for their taonga.

Creative NZ

Creative Communities Scheme

CCS helps to fund local arts projects. Each year Creative New Zealand provides funding to city and district councils to distribute in their area. 

Department of Conservation

Mātauranga Kura Taiao Fund

This fund supports whānau, hapū and iwi to revive, retain and promote traditional Māori knowledge. It also supports the application of this mātauranga to indigenous biodiversity management.

Agribusiness Innovation Grant

This grant encourages and supports businesses to develop and implement innovative solutions.

Creative NZ

Hapū Development Funding

This fund is available to Ngāpuhi marae, hapū, whenua and environmental groups. It helps to develop and put in place long-term sustainable plans/projects to manage their assets.

NZ Lottery Grants Board

Lottery Grants

This fund aims to support marae communities to retain, protect, or transmit their mātauranga and care for their taonga.

Te Puni Kōkiri

Māori Business Growth Fund

This initiative helps Māori establish and grow their business. They do this by providing information and advice, and brokering relationships.
